Use of Wireless Internet Policy

The Sussex County Library’s mission is to provide the residents of Sussex County with the resources and services that contribute towards the fulfillment of their educational, informational, and recreational needs.  The Library provides access to information, regardless of format or technology.  In conjunction with the Library’s mission, the Library offers access to the Internet through a wireless connection.

Patrons using the Library’s wireless connection agree to comply with all provisions of the current Internet Policy.

The Sussex County Library provides wireless Internet access at all of its Libraries.

  • Patrons must have their own laptop computer to utilize the wireless connection.

  •  The Library does not provide technical support for patrons using the connection—i.e., supporting the user’s laptop.

  • Printing is not provided, and the Library will not provide electrical outlets for all patrons accessing the wireless system.

  • Patrons may not plug equipment into the Library’s computer network.

The Library’s wireless Internet access is unencrypted.  Use of the wireless connection is done at the patron’s own risk.  By using this connection, patrons acknowledge that security errors and hacking are an inherent risk associated with any wireless service.  For that reason, patrons will knowingly assume such risk, and further agree to hold the Library harmless from any claim or loss arising out of, or related to, any such instance of hacking or other unauthorized use or access into the patron’s computer.

The Sussex County Library accepts no responsibility for any software downloaded and/or installed, e-mail opened, or sites accessed while patrons are on the wireless Internet connection.  Any damage done to the patron’s equipment from viruses, identity theft, spyware, plug-ins, or other internet-borne programs is the sole responsibility of the patron; and the patron indemnifies and holds harmless the Library from any such damage.

The Library accepts no responsibility regarding the ability of patron-owned equipment to connect to the wireless network.

The Sussex County Library is committed to providing an environment appropriate for its patrons.  Wireless Internet users are asked to refrain from displaying materials on patron computers that may be interpreted as part of an intimidating, hostile, offensive or inappropriate environment.  Transmission, reception, or display of any material or communications in violation of any U.S. or state regulation is prohibited, including but not limited to: the unauthorized duplication of copyrighted material, access or dissemination of threatening or obscene material, or of material protected as trade secrets.
